Shawfair

  • The Shawfair Local Plan promotes the most significant community development in Lothian for decades.
  • 4000 new houses will be built, along with economic sites at Whitehill Mains, Cairney Business Park, and Todhills Business Park.
  • Midlothian Council's vision is to promote a sustainable pattern of development that is reliant on public transport, cycling, and walking. Fundamental to achieving this is the location of housing close to good community facilities, shops, and employment opportunities, with links by efficient and high quality public transport. The provision of the railway line with a station at the centre of the development is fundamental to achieving this vision.
  • Work has already commenced on the Todhills Business Park, and the new Sheriffhall Park and Ride.
  • Design work is in progress for 2 new bridges, (value∼£2m), which will carry the development's spine road over the Waverley line, with construction due to commence in November 2007.

Eskbank

  • Good access leading from the A7.
  • Car parking available near platform, with potential to have large car park and a "park and ride".
  • Located close to Bonnyrigg and Dalkeith.
  • Jewel & Esk Valley College and proposed Community Hospital nearby.

Newtongrange

  • Adjacent to the Mining Museum.
  • Direct access from A7.

Stow

  • The Scottish Parliament in passing the Waverley Railway (Scotland) Act did so on the proviso that a station is constructed at Stow.
  • Car parking will be introduced adjacent to the new station (situated on the site of former station).

Galashiels

  • Close to town centre, maximising the pedestrian usage.
  • Allows a 'Modal Interchange' with the proposed revised bus station site.
  • Facilitates future development (retail etc), which could effectively man the station and enhance security.
  • Adjacent to Galashiels Health Centre.
